On Writing & PublishingGet a Job...MaybeJuly 7, 2010
The toughest thing to do as a solopreneur is to have faith in yourself. And to have faith in your product or service. And faith in your work. That's probably the hardest thing for an artist. I consider myself an artist. In fact, you might say I'm an artist, only with words. So don't lose faith in yourself. Be the artist you long to be. Be who you are. Don't try to be someone else. Be the writer you are meant to be. The speaker, the artist, the dreamer, the risk-taker. Be the person you were born to be. Maybe you won't quit your day job just yet. Or you might need to do something part-time until you get steady projects. But the truth is, if you aren't pursuing your dream, whose time are you wasting? Your own. So go ahead. Take the first step to chasing your dream. Because the last thing you want is to look back with regret. I'm glad I left the last job I had several years ago. Besides, it wasn't the right fit. Now I'm pursuing my passion. And I'm more fulfilled than I've ever been. What are you doing to fulfill your dreams and passions? Write down your goals. Give yourself a deadline for your personal projects. Otherwise they may never get done.

I was born in the Ohio Valley, but I moved to western Pennsylvania as a toddler. Aside from college and graduate school, I have always been surrounded by mountains and hills. Perhaps that's why two of my favorite places to visit are Jackson Hole and Asheville, North Carolina.
