I'm working on an e-course that will hopefully be available this fall and it's all about the art of re-writing. There aren't many courses on re-writing so I'm hoping to offer something valuable to freelancers and beginners.
So, how do you go about re-writing? Well, first you must have something to re-write. Sometimes your first drafts will be less than stellar. But you can always re-write, right? Here's my quick primer on the art of re-writing:
1. Let your writing breathe. Give it time to sit for a few days before you return to it. Can you improve upon it? More often than not you'll find sections or sentences that need re-written.
2. Less is more. If you can say it with fewer words, do it. Always.
3. Shorter is better. I believe in cutting something to its essence. Besides, brevity rules since the emergence of social media.
Now, what are your secrets to re-writing? I'd like to know.
